Anticipation Builds For Hedi Slimane’s Celine Unveiling
The countdown is now on to one of the most anticipated fashion line unveilings of 2018. French creative director Hedi Slimane will be showing off his inaugural collection for French Fashion house Celine at this year’s Paris Fashion Week in late September.
After announcing his departure from Yves Saint Laurent back in April 2016 it was almost 20 months later that he was announced as the creative director of the fashion firm Celine succeeding British designer Pheobe Philo.
And five days ago the world got to see the first fruits of Hedi’s labour after enlisting the pint-sized superstar Lady Gaga to show off Hedi’s first piece from the forthcoming collection, an orange tanned looking handbag with personalised Lady Gaga initials.
Looking vastly different to the former direction of the more elegant and feminine vision of Phoebe Philo, the new collection looks to be standard Hedi with a bolder, adventurous and more seductive approach.
The decision to unveil through Lady Gaga and her social media all look to be a strategic move on behalf of Celine and Hedi, in order to increase Celine’s presence digitally.
To wet the appetite even further for Hedi fans, a series of Instastories have been unveiled today under the hashtag #CELINEBYHEDISLIMANE which portray a series of mysterious images, one showing a model with only her back displayed in a sequined style outfit, the other moody music surrounded by gold disco curtains.
There’s already a ton of new changes underway under Hedi, the most prominent being Celine knocking off their accented é to return to the brand’s original roots which is Celine.
As well as all social media posts originally put out through Philo’s team have now been deleted as Hedi takes the reigns of the label, charting a new path for the French fashion house.
Both Hedi’s menswear and womenswear collection for Celine will be unveiled at this year’s Paris Fashion Week show on September 28. Expect fireworks, don’t forget the date.
