Comedian Dave Chappelle has announced that he will be returning to centre stage in 2017 with a series of specials on Netflix. It is alleged that he will make up to $60 million dollars from the deal. The three specials will be a mix of personally produced content plus one made exclusively for Netflix. His two self produced specials will emerge from never-before-seen shows filmed at Austin City Limits Live and the Hollywood Palladium.
One insider has said, “Dave was offered $20 million a special. Netflix basically has a war chest for this kind of content. Whether it’s a loss or not, Dave Chappelle’s specials will get a lot of press and bring in new subscribers.”
Whether Chapelle actually goes through with the specials is another thing. He famously walked away from hosting even after he was offered 50 million by Comedy Central in 2005. Since he famously jetted to South Africa and then returned citing health reasons for his departure, he has remained relatively quiet. We do know one thing, we’re glad to have him back. Especially at a time like this. Take a look at his latest sensational monologue on SNL.
