Gaspar Noé Shocks and Delights With Dance Fueled Orgy
If you have ever endured a Gaspar Noé film you’ll know that if you come through the other side, you’re one of the braver ones.
Whether it’s the hallucinogenic thriller Enter the Void, the pornographic film Love or the revenge-rape film Irreversible, fans of the Franco-Argentine French filmmaker have become accustomed to the shock and awe value of his work.
But it seems that his latest has found fans in some unsettling places, that is the general public, Climax his latest film is one that has been not only winning awards but also welcoming rave reviews from critics across the world since premiering at Cannes. With some calling it the ‘best film of the director’s career so far.’ and an ‘intravenous odyssey.’
Shot in just two weeks in Paris, the film starring The Mummy’s Sofia Boutella tells the story of a group of young dancers who visit a party where they indulge in some unsuspecting sangria laced with LSD causing them to turn on one another. What ensues is a mind-bending psychedelic nightmare full of improvised dance and sex-fueled fantasies, perhaps if Daft Punk made a horror film it might look something like this.
Of the glowing reviews, Gaspar Noe told The Guardian, “I must be doing something wrong. I have to take a long holiday and rethink my career.”
