Second Coming Of The Avalanches?
It’s been almost two decades since the release of the legendary debut album by the Australian group The Avalanches, Since I Left You, in 2000 on Australian label Modular records (home to Tame Impala and Wolfmother.) The Avalanches have been taunting us ever since, with cryptic messages, false promises and dead ends. The expected follow up has now entered music folklore, in 2006 Modular released the press statement – “They’ve made the record of their lives basically.” Since then nothing at all has materialised.
But now a trailer entitled -“Since They Left Us” has appeared out of nowhere, featuring potential collaborators rapper Danny Brown, folk artist Father John Misty and pop weirdo Ariel Pink. Could this finally be the follow up we’ve been waiting for? They will be playing live shows this summer so maybe this is it, but then again . . .
